Sharks Swim Team

The Sharks Swim Team is the number one way our children get to know each other in the neighborhood – it has been going on since the early 1960s. (Walnut Bend began in 1963 and Lakeside in 1969). For more than 40 years children have joined up and we are now well into our second generation. 

It used to be Lakeside and Walnut Bend competing against each other trying to compete with big teams until 1994 when the two clubs were joined so we could beat BGP and Westchester! That is how The Sharks was born. 

So WHY is Swim Team so special? The Sharks Swim Team unites children throughout the neighborhood and forms lasting relationships and memories. Getting up and going to swim practice in the morning may seem like a drag to an adult. But getting on a bike, putting a towel around your neck and walking or cycling to the pool is one of the few independent joys children have these days. Kids love being with other kids. Even the shyest child will come out of the shell to play at the pool. 

Bayou Swim League consists of The Sharks, The Briargrove Park Stars; The Briar Flyers (Briar Village), the Westchester Dolphins and Spring Valley. Swimmers start as young as three and finish by the end of their Junior Year in High School. Many go on to coach the team after graduation. Those who swim in their teens all join their High School swim teams – all excel. Even the worst swim team kid is better than the average swimmer!
